I started wearing this jade bangle when I purchased it with my Chinese assistant during our shopping trip to China in March. We each purchased one for ourselves and I got three more for YYJ. They are all small sizes. The jade bangle is 51mm flat inside and 15mm wide, a nice "cuff" style. It's an example of "modern jadeite" because most Asian people don't like the dark areas of the jade, and so the carver would bleach out the deep color, then add color, which is a standard color enhancement process that turns not-so-pretty "A" grade jade into "B" grade jade. However, the trend for the carvers is to NOT color treat jadeite, except for commercial jade bangles and pendants. This is not your mother's kind of jade bangle, and the younger Chinese women really like this coloring because it's so different. I didn't think I'd like it for every day wear, but I have fallen in love with my new jade bangle. It's endlessly interesting, sometimes the dark areas look like calligraphy, sometimes they remind me of butterflies, but it is truly beautiful. I didn't realize it also had "chalk blue" hues until I tried to wear it with a lime green shirt, and it didn't look right. But it looks wonderful with anything blue that I wear, which sometimes jade doesn't always look good with blues. It fits very tight on my wrist, and doesn't "clunk around" so it's comfortable to wear even though it's wider that I usually wear. And the energy is a "yin yang" balance, light and dark, strong and peaceful, at the same time to balance body, mind and spirit. Yin Yang is also symbolic of Dao, tai chi, and I am a daily tai chi practitioner, so I love the symbolism and the energy. There are several of these darker but not very translucent jadeite bangle bracelets on Ying Yu Jade, and Jade Bangle Bracelets web sites, the more modern jade that is all natural, just like it came out of the ground.

How do you know when it's time to change to another jade bangle? Sometimes you simply want to wear a different jade bangle. Other times, it starts to bother you, feel uncomfortable. That means your body qi has changed and another color or pattern of jade might be more beneficial to your health. My bangle, the kiss of hong, felt "hot". And when I did my weight lifting at the fitness center, I felt weak, couldn't lift the weight I usually do, and I felt weak for a few workouts. It occurred to me perhaps I wasn't wearing the right kind of jade. When I put on the jade bangle in the photo, I felt stronger, and was able to lift my usual weight. I also felt less tired today. I've been needing a power nap in the afternoon for the last couple of weeks, and today I have much more energy. How do you know what is the right kind of jade for you? When you look at jade bangles and one really appeals to you, that's the energy you need. |
