How to Use Jade Eggs and Jade Ben Wa Balls for Kegel Exercise
Kegel exercises are a series of
exercise designed to strengthen the muscles of the pelvic floor.
These exercises are now recommended for women with urinary stress incontinence, men who have urinary incontinence after prostate surgery and people who have fecal incontinence.
Women who have used the jade eggs and ben wa balls have told me how much these have helped improve the quality of their life. After menopause, many women have vaginal dryness and the vaginal canal loses its health, and the kegel exercise helps them become more moist and improves their health so they can enjoy sexual activity more.
Why use ben wa balls or eggs for kegel exercise? Some people have trouble finding and isolating the muscles of the pelvic floor. It's important to learn how to tighten (contract) the correct muscles. Most people contract the abdominal or thigh muscles, and don't work the pelvic floor muscles. These incorrect contractions can worsen pelvic floor tone and incontinence. The jade ben wa balls or jade eggs give you something to "feel" so you get feedback to know you are doing the exercise correctly, and using the right muscles. To do kegel exercise correctly, you need to "lift" the pelvic floor, then squeeze, and the ben wa balls and jade eggs give you something to "lift".
Why use jade instead of other material for ben wa balls or eggs? The jade the eggs and ben wa balls are made of is pure and natural. The Chinese people have used jade for centuries not only for its beauty, but because the jade qi energy is closely related to the body energy qi. Jade has healing energy properties, and that's one of the reasons Chinese people love jade so much. In fact, the Chinese believe that their jade becomes a part of them, that their life qi goes into the jade. When they wear a piece of jade all the time, they can see the jade reflect their body health. When their jade is green and has an inner glow, it reflects the person is healthy. When jade that is worn all the time looks dull, it indicates the person may be ill, or getting ill. Jade is much more natural than an unknown metal that most ben wa balls are made from. Some metal ben wa balls may even have an unknown or dangerous liquid inside. You never have to worry about being exposed to toxins from metals when you use pure and natural jade.
Women often wonder if they should use the jade eggs or the jade ben wa balls, and if they should use solid or drilled jade eggs or ben wa balls. This is a matter of personal preference. I recommend undrilled jade ben wa balls and eggs, because they are smooth all the way around, and easier to clean. They won't "get lost" in the vagina. When you sit and squat, you will be able to push it out, or find it with your finger to push it out. But if you want to start with drilled jade eggs or ben wa balls, you can use unwaxed dental floss as your string to easily remove them.
To clean, wash after using with soap and water, and wrap them in a soft cloth. Jade doesn't like the high heat of boiling and boiling will damage the structure of the jade stone, and the qi energy. There is another jade egg seller who sells eggs drilled through the length of the eggs, and these kinds of eggs must be boiled because the hole is too long to be able to clean. That's the reason these jade eggs are drilled though the top, for cleanliness and hygiene.
The medium size jade eggs is a comfortable shape for women, and a good choice for women who are post menopausal and may have shrinking of the vagina. They are shaped to work well in the vagina, and until your pelvic floor is stronger, you have only one item to move to work the kegel muscles. As your muscles get stronger, and your natural body fluids help you to become moist again, you can use the ben wa balls more easily.
All women can use the ben wa balls. They are 20mm round, and the size recommended by the Amercian Urological Association. In fact, a director of the AUA museum purchased a pair of the jade ben wa balls to display in their museum.
The jade eggs are different sizes, and used for different purposes. If you are using them for kegel exercise, start with the medium jade egg. As your kegel muscles improve, you can change to the smallest jade egg, because it takes more "skill" to use the smallest egg, and will improve the muscles that make sexual activity more pleasurable. Some women use the set of eggs for "vaginal kung fu", weight lifting. The eggs can be tied together and you do your kegel exercise using a weigh lifting technique. This is an ancient Daoist qi exercise, to balance the body, mind and spirit. You can find more information about Daoist jade egg exercise on the internet and in books.
To perform the kegel exercise, first empty your bladder. Insert the jade ben wa balls or jade egg and squeeze the muscles which you will feel as the jade egg or jade ben wa balls move. This lifts the pelvic floor. Hold for a count of ten, then relax for a count of ten. Do 10 sets, three times a day. The key to success is doing kegel exercise daily, regularly. When your pelvic floor improves and you get the results you want, do the exercise daily, at least once a day. If your pelvic floor is in good health and you have good muscle tone, to keep these muscles strong simply insert the jade eggs or ben wa balls at least four times each week and wear them while you do your regular activities for 20 minutes.
